Malaysia a Christian Nation?

What do I think? What do you think I think? I am a Muslim. So again, what do you think I think? A yes? No?

Fiqh Medic

What are the legal maxims of Islamic Law (QAWA’ID FIQHIYYAH). Let's say, if a patient is having a colostomy bag (which contains his urine or feces), would the ablution be valid? How about, if a women is in labour (bear in mind that giving birth to the first child can be as long as 19hours); can she still performs Salah? (Let's find the answer here.)

Men VS Women

Let's think critically. Who is the one which better in governing this world!? Men, who have more influencing and have strong character or women, who have emotional values, and boundless cares and love?

Are You Ready to Fall in Love??

What is love to begin with? we might assume that we have that sort of wonderful love, unshakeable by no others even death. We may sacrifice anything to our beloved person. But, if we claimed that we love Rasulullah, where are the proofs? You are willing to sacrifice anything for his sake?

Does God need us?

Now, tell me, what are the differences between this human-made lego tree and the one who created by our almighty creator, our god?

The Circle Of Life

Peace be upon you brothers and sisters. May Allah bless all of you. To our brothers and sisters who have taken and will be taking their examinations, I would like to wish all of you a good luck and may all of you succeed with flying colours.J

Dear brothers and sisters,
Have a look at our own lives, we frequently complain at every little thing? We might think that our lives are more distressing and pity compared to our friends or relatives. Why are they wealthy? Why am I so unlucky? Is this my fate of life? Indeed, we always view the contrary whenever we see successful people. Having this kind of thoughts makes us give up easily and assume that this is our destiny while we actually have no knowledge about it at all. Therefore, it is important to realise that our fate is in the hands of Allah, who is All-Knowing. Allah knows what best for us. If we do not get what we have planned and worked for, there must be hikmah behind it. This is because Allah has a better plan for us in the future or the hereafter. Yet as a Muslim, we should strive for the best, work hard and always pray to Allah after that. This is what we call as tawakkal. The question is how we can get a good destiny? In this blog, I would like to share a few steps on how we could change our destiny with Allah’s will.

Prayer &Doa’
This is one of the first things that we must always bear in our mind as a Muslim. Performing five times prayers in a day is the second pillar of Islam after reciting the two Syahadahs. It is vital for a Muslim to obey Allah’s commands by accomplishing all the five pillars. Besides performing prayers, another act that can change the qada’ and qadar with Allah’s will is doa’.
According to Tsauban R.A, the Prophet says, “Nothing can resist the fate besides prayer”. - Authentic hadith narrated by IbnHibban in his Sahih. (Agreed upon by al-Zahabiauthencity).
Hence, there is no excuse for us to stop praying to Allah. Furthermore, Allah has listed out a few times and places where doa’s is certainly fulfilled (Mustajab). This shows that Allah has a full of compassion on us and He is indeed the Most Merciful.

Good Deeds

Sometimes, doing something for the benefits of ourselves is not good enough. What we should be reminded is that we must always perform good deeds for the others such as charity. Though, the easiest way to be a generous person is by volunteering in any community services or by just helping the unfortunates. Allah loves people who are willing to sacrifice their work and time for other people’s convenience. By doing this, insyaAllah we will be rewarded with pahala.
This is based on the hadith narrated by Anas bin Malik, saying that the Prophet said: “The charity is able to suppress the wrath of al-Rabb (Allah).” Hadith narrated by Tirmidhi no. 664.

HusnuZon (Having Good Intention) of Allah and Others
At some point in our lives, we might have met people who keep blaming Allah whenever they had a misfortune. To them, Allah does not love them anymore or Allah has acted unfairly to them, and many other excuses. It is absolutely irrational for us to blame Allah for whatever we encounter in our lives. Do keep this in our mind; has Allah not given us enough? We should be grateful since Allah has created us and given us a life. Most importantly, born as a Muslim is one of the biggest awards that Allah has had ever conferred us. Also, we should always have good intention not only to Allah but other people as well.

The Prophet says:"Do notdie unless youare husnuzon(good intention) ofGod." -AuthenticHadithnarrated by Muslim, Ahmadandal-Bayhaqi.
I would like to share a story about an ordinary young lady who has a bad perception towards a young man in a railway station which takes place in the U.K. This lady is on her way to her hometown. While waiting for the train to come, she gets herself a newspaper to do the crossword, a cup of coffee and a packet of cookies. As she goes and sits on a bench, a perfect ordinary-looking young man sits beside her, wearing a business suit and carrying a briefcase.

At first, the lady does not notice anything weird in that man. Suddenly, the man leans to his left and picks up the packet of cookies, tears it open, takes one out, and has a bite of it. What she does is has a look at the newspaper, takes a sip of coffee, tries to do the crossword as she cannot do anything. What do you think happens next? She will just have to go for it and there she tries very hard not to notice the fact that the packet is already mysteriously opened. She takes out a cookie for herself. She thinks, that will settle the man. But it is not because a moment or two later, the man does it again. He takes another cookie.
He takes one, she takes one, he takes one, and she takes one. It feels like a lifetime. Finally, when they get to the end, the man stands up and walks away. Well, they exchange meaningful looks then he walks away, and the lady breathes a sigh of relief and sits back. A moment or two later the train is coming in, so she tosses back the rest of her coffee, stands up, picks up the newspaper, and underneath the newspaper are her cookies. As she notices her cookies, she feels embarrassed as she is the one eating the man’s cookies.
Hence, this shows us that having good intention of others is essential and this helps us build rapport with other people and become a respectful person.

Effort & Hard work
Last but not least, we could change our fate of life by effort and hard work. We must not solely depend on chances or luck for us to get what we want. If our first attempt doesn’t work, try to find a new way to reach to the top and never give up if we ever fail. Many people in this world from the past had shown to us that hard work really pays. For instance, our Prophet Muhammad S.A.W never gave up preaching the people about Islam. He is the best role model that we have in Islam. There is no reason for us to never put an effort in order to become successful.
There is a saying that journey to a million miles begins with a single step. So, start your journey by setting a goal in every single thing that you do. Always begin with basmallahand remember Allah once you are at the top.InsyaAllah you will succeed.
At that’s it for this time, thank you for willing to spend your time reading this article. I hope it benefits you. Assalamualaikum w.b.t.

A Muslim. A Student. A Muslim Student.

Students’ goal, no doubt, is always to succeed whatever there is to come in schools, or more suitable to our condition, university years. Give theory examinations, dissection of the book begins from cover to cover. Give practical examinations, endless visits to the skills centre start and continue until the last minute. Give sets of quizzes, lecture notes are screened through thoroughly with every little details taken into attention.

GREAT! TWO THUMBS UP, YOU ARE SERIOUS IN YOUR STUDIES! :)

Usually, these students are the apples of lecturers’ eyes. The ones seen as hardworking, determined, not afraid to ask and clarify, etc. These, my friends, are crucially essential for survival in university style of learning, especially the ones involving healthcare courses. But with this comes the curious question of how the success here will be able to sustain whatever there is to come in the post-student life. This may be in working life, or merely in daily life, as a normal human being with the white coats and medical tags off.

THEN, HOW?

Now, before exploring on the ‘how’, why not we look into the ‘why’ at a glance. Into the need of becoming successful. See, as all of us are constantly being reminded, Allah has sent us to His earth no other than to worship Him (Az-Zariyaat: 56), and to be a caliph (Al-baqarah: 30). So, having these in mind, we are all set to venture into our own determined fields and professions. With proper intentions (niat) of submitting whatever we do as ibadah, and with high determination to represent and bring the message of Islam, we need to instil in mind that we have to be successful. We need to portray a good image to everyone, that practicing Muslims are the ones who everyone wants to be. In spreading the message of Islam, this is one of the most powerful factor that must be worked on.

Therefore, now is the discussion on ‘how’. Coming to this, there are actually no specific guidelines which can pinpoint and direct anything or anyone towards success. It is a subjective journey really, and going to the dynasty of success requires continuous exploration of self-potential. However, there are some practical things which may help to boost our potential, and mind you, the points in the later discussions have nothing to do with formal studying. For that part, everyone is sure to have achieved ample motivation to keep the engine going. But the list and discussions below are more focused on how to create some add value within us, which will contribute to the build up of strong characters insyaAllah. Ready for the ride? Now, here we go.

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

Point 1
Get involved in community-oriented activities, give endlessly.
Apart from learning how to interact with people, it also opens up our views on many things. Being in other people’s settings will teach us to be humble and thankful at the same time, with all the nikmah Allah has given us, even without us asking for them. Through these realisations, it is indeed a wonderful feeling to note that there is this one silent but pleasant push factor for us to keep on contributing to the society. We will no longer find any burden at all in giving. In fact, it is quite appropriate to put the word ‘addiction’ to explain the feeling we will get after these kinds of activities. Amazingly, as we keep on giving, with Allah’s rahmah and rahim, we get a lot more in return. Not that we asked for it, but due to His endless love towards His servants, that is what has been promised to us. Allahuakbar!

Point 2
Play sports, get healthy.
Health, when presented together with sports, is almost always related to physical well being. True, it is one of the most prominent things incorporated in sports activities. However, it is actually much more than that. With smaller scale realisation, social health is another entity that follows very closely. By playing sports, we will be able to know how a team works, and how role-playing is important in ensuring success. It is undeniable that we can learn all these things by doing other things as well, but hey, why don’t we want to get two things (physical and social health) in one go. After all, combos never fail to grab our attentions right? ;)

Point 3
Travel and explore the world.
Doesn’t need to be far. Exploring the kampung next to ours can also be counted. Just, go out and explore whatever the world has in store for us. Learn people’s tradition and lifestyle in different settings. Learn what Allah has sent to other places, and how the local community react and cope with it. Learn how strong people can be in facing various challenges that come endlessly in their lives. Learn history of places and their people back then and now. Just, go out and learn.

‘Do they not travel through the land, so that their hearts (and minds) may thus learn wisdom and their ears may thus learn to hear? Truly it is not their eyes that are blind, but their hearts which are in their breasts.’ (Al-Hajj: 46)

Learn as much as possible, and tag it along with dua’ that whatever is seen and experienced will be able to open our hearts and soften them to fathom Allah’s lessons and greatness, insyaAllah.

Point 4
Be daring, receive challenges.
Opportunities are everywhere. It is just the matter of us opening our eyes widely to grab them. Sometimes they come to us, asking for their puzzles to be solved. Sometimes they are just hibernating quietly, waiting for anyone to come and trigger the golden lessons they have in store. They can be in any form, anything at all. Take group presentations as a simple example. Sometimes we can be pointed to be the presenter, and sometimes the post can be opened to anyone who is willing to commit. Whichever case it is, agree, volunteer, take the challenge and be ready to face whatever that comes together with it. We will never know our full potential until we break through our comfort zone. Dragonflies will be sprinting inside our tummies when it is time for the real deal, but hey, how do you think great speakers feel when they started off with their first speech? ;)

Point 5
Have quality dates with Him.
All in all, after long hours of working hard to achieve success, it is always a relaxing moment to spend some time with Him. Happiness, share with Him. Sadness, cry to Him. Problems, report to Him. He has allocated for us a rigid 5 times a day to listen to whatever we have to say. That, plus promises of rewards to those spending extra. Subhanallah, what more can we ask for from The Creator, who only asks us to worship Him and be His Caliph, but gives endless rewards to us in return. Indeed, in the remembrance of Allah does the heart find peace.

Plus, where else can we ask for strength, if not from The One who made us, and The One who knows every detailed physiology inside us? Strength to achieve whatever we have discussed earlier, in our pursue of becoming a great Muslim in the society. Strength to deny the beauty of this temporary world in order to seek for His blessings here and the hereafter. And strength to maintain our intentions in the right path in everything that we do. After all, prayers are the most powerful weapon for all mukmineen and mukminaat. :)
*******************************************

Alhamdulillah, those are the 5 practical points which insyaAllah will help to dig the best quality out of us, to be further polished and shone. But these are nothing if our attitude is putting a huge barrier from the exciting exploration within ourselves. Yes, in the end, it is back to the ATTITUDE. Get that right, and insyaAllah other things follow with ease. How to get it right? Just, be excited to explore new things. Seek, seek and seek endlessly. We will be surprised with the journey, as well as the outcome of it. :) These, together with the basic knowledge we have been grilled with in the university, will insyaAllah boost our potential up, and help in our journey of becoming a great Muslim which will direct to fulfilling our purposes of life.

ALL THE BEST EVERYONE! :)

Exam Fever

Assalamualaikum  warahmatullahi wabarokatuh! =)

Salam sejahtera kawan-kawan. Salam 1 Malaysia. 1 IMU.

6. Malas timbul kerana rasa putus asa. Hilang semangat juga timbul kerana putus asa.Halus dan spontan, bukan? Memang harus cari kekuatan disitu.

Don’t despair and never lose hope
'Cause Allah is always by your side
Insha Allah
(fine.cliche.yeah.i know) :P

Chaiyookkk!

Letter to AAD

The Head of
Academic Affairs Department (AAD)
International Medical University (IMU)                         14 September 2010

Dear Sir/ Madam,

REQUEST TO HAVE A RELOOK AT STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC TIME TABLE

The above matter is referred.

2. As Hari Raya started on Friday, 10 September 2010 this year, a number of students had to go through some inconvenience regarding their holiday because there were still classes on Thursday, 9 September 2010, the day before Hari Raya Holiday. It was uncalled for on their part and also that of lecturers as some classes were not only compulsory but also important for the students, i.e Clinical Skill Unit (CSU) for batch ME109, to name one.

3. The implications were quite obvious and apart from students’ absence from the lectures, some that may be able to attend may have not coped well with what was taught that day on the eve of a big celebration especially for Muslim students. One of the reasons for the absence, was because some students have to travel far back home such as to Sabah and Sarawak and 24 hours is just not enough even for a one-way trip. Nevertheless, I am writing this letter not only representing the Muslim students but all others and we hope that in the future, the day before such an event would always be designated as a holiday, be it Hari Raya, or even Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas, to name a few.

4. We strongly believe that your department is always aware of this situation and it’s not a surprise if this matter has been brought to your department earlier by some other parties. If that is the case, I hope you would treat this letter just as a formality as we are a society that feels obligated to always bring up matters regarding students’ welfare to relevant authorities. We hope that you would take the matter aforementioned into consideration and let not the same thing happen again in the future.

5. It is much appreciated if you could respond to this letter and we thank you very much before hands for your time and consideration.

Yours Truly,

(MOHD AMIRUL ASYRAF MOHD HANAFFI)
President,
IMU Muslim Society (MSOC)
